Visiting Robin Hood’s Bay: A Day Trip from Leicester

Escape to the seaside: A day trip to Robin Hood's Bay from Leicester

If you live in Midland towns such as Birmingham and Leicester, it is still possible to take a day trip to the seaside. There are several popular seaside towns in Lincolnshire, such as Skegness, as well as Norfolk beaches in Hunstanton, Brancester, and Barmouth, Aberdyfi in Wales, and the Yorkshire coast, which is perfect for weekend or day trips.

Driving to Robin Hood’s bay

If you plan to drive from Leicester to Robin Hood’s Bay, it’s recommended to leave early in the morning, preferably between 7 am and 8 am, to arrive at your destination before noon and have the rest of the day to explore before returning. The drive takes about three hours (160 miles) via the M1 and A64. It’s suggested to take a break at one or two rest stops along the way due to the long journey. Some recommended service stations to stop at include:

  • Welcome Break Woodall Northbound Service (30/31, M1, Woodall, Sheffield S26 7XR), located on the side of the M1 (KFC, Burger King, Subway, Starbucks, Waitrose, and WHSmith)

  • Bilbrough Top Services (A64, A64 Leeds York Road, Bilbrough, York YO23 3PP). In addition to petrol stations, there is also a McDonald’s and a Starbucks.

Parking at Robin Hood's bay

When it comes to parking at Robin Hood’s Bay, the Robin Hood’s Bay Bank Top Car Park is a small car park with an excellent location and a nice view overlooking the village. However, spaces are limited, especially during busy weekends in the summer. It’s suggested to arrive before noon. If this car park is full, you may want to go to the nearby Station car park, which is just 2 minutes away. There is also a public toilet with a 20p entry charge near the Bank Top Car Park and a large pirate ship playground with beautiful scenery. It’s easier to park at the Bank Top Car Park and take a 5-6 minute walk to the old village and beach since driving into the village is very difficult due to narrow and steep roads, and there’s no space for parking unless you’re a resident.
